AI text shortcuts
for macOS.

Features

Everything happens where you already work.

Fluent App lives in your menu bar and listens for the keystroke. No new window, no floating panel, no second app to learn.

Works in every app

Mail, Slack, Notes, Figma, Safari, VS Code, Xcode — if you can select text, Fluent App can transform it. The result replaces the selection in place.

Translate instantly

Automatic language detection and one-shortcut translation, without leaving the window you are in.

Improve your writing

Fix grammar, clean up phrasing, adjust the tone, or make text sound more professional — one keystroke at a time.

Summarize long text

Condense articles, emails, threads, or meeting notes into a short summary right where you selected them.

Custom shortcuts

Create your own actions with your own prompts — personal rewrites, tone presets, language conversions, or any repeated text task.

Native and fast

Built with SwiftUI as a lightweight menu bar app. No Electron, no background bloat, no dashboards to open.

Why Fluent App

Built for people who don't want another AI dashboard.

Most AI writing tools ask you to leave what you're doing, open a new window, and paste text around. Fluent App is the opposite — quiet, native, and out of the way.

Privacy-first

Your API keys are stored on your Mac. Fluent App has no backend, no analytics, no telemetry, and no account. Text goes directly from your Mac to the AI provider you chose — nothing passes through us.

Bring your own key

Plug in your own OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, or xAI Grok key. Pay only for what you actually use — no subscription, no markup, no vendor lock-in.

Free and open source

Fluent App is MIT licensed. The full source, build scripts, and release pipeline are public. Audit it, fork it, or ship your own version.

Stay in flow

No more copy, switch app, paste, prompt, copy, switch back, paste. Select → shortcut → done. Your hands never leave the keyboard.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is Fluent App really free?
Yes. The app is free and open source under the MIT license. You only pay for the AI usage you make on your own API key with your chosen provider.
Do you see my text or my API keys?
No. Fluent App has no backend. Your API keys live on your Mac and your selected text is sent directly from your Mac to the AI provider you pick. There is no analytics, telemetry, account, or remote service.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 13 Ventura or later. Fluent App is a native SwiftUI menu bar app, so it is small and fast.
Which AI providers can I use?
OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google Gemini, and xAI Grok. You add your own API key for whichever provider you prefer and can switch at any time.
Can I create my own shortcuts?
Yes. Fluent App ships with templates for translate, improve writing, fix grammar, summarize, and make professional — and you can add fully custom shortcuts with your own prompts in the Settings window.
Does it work in apps like Slack, Mail, Figma, or VS Code?
Yes. If you can select text in an app, Fluent App can transform it. After granting Accessibility access once, the result replaces the selection in place.
Where is the source code?
On GitHub at github.com/alfonsobries/fluent-app. You can read the code, file issues, open pull requests, or fork it and ship your own build.
